It was pouring and everything was very wet during our two-night stay. The host was kind and soft-spoken, and the staff spoiled us with wonderful food. They even packed us a breakfast bag for our very early departure. We’ll try to visit again. Just a heads-up, when it rains in that area, you’ll need a 4x4 for the road from Barkley East to Rhodes. Worth visiting? Yes, yes, and yes! 🥇🥂

Getting to Rhodes isn’t easy, but the pies they serve for supper may be the best in all of South Africa. The chef’s own secret recipe makes a thin puff pastry that’s light yet has a nice elasticity, wrapped around superb lamb or chicken fillings. The accommodations are comfortable, though they aren’t shiny and new, as others have mentioned.

A great place to stay, and one of the best pies I’ve ever eaten. It was so delicious and packed with meat that I didn’t take a photo until I’d eaten three quarters of it.

The rooms have old-world charm and are cosy and comfortable. Meals are served in a snug dining room with a fire always going, and the food is very tasty. Dave and his staff are so welcoming and friendly that you feel at home right away. You can have a drink at the bar with good company, or take your sundowner out to the garden for beautiful views over Rhodes. It’s the best place to stay in Rhodes, and I highly recommend visiting the beautiful town, especially in autumn.

Marieta, Dave, and the staff were absolute gems. Snow Cottage was immaculate, safe, clean, and well equipped for everything we needed. It’s such a beautiful little hamlet, a lovely place to reconnect with nature. We’ll certainly be back.
