Serendipity Guest House

It’s a quiet, peaceful spot, especially handy if you’re travelling for business. I stayed for the whole month, and the host was amazing, always making me feel welcome. Breakfast was fresh every time. If you want that home-away-from-home feeling, Serendipity is definitely the place.

The breakfast was very unappetizing, and there were no coffee facilities. The bathroom floor had split linoleum, the plastic decor was tasteless, and the rusted bolts and chains on the windows and doors were unsettling. Worst of all were the mounted trophies of killed wildlife, including zebra and kudu, and the photographs of the owners and family smiling astride animals they had killed, rifles in hand. Some people may not yet realize that wildlife conservation is valued above trophy hunting, but displaying those hunts so proudly in the breakfast room and guest leisure areas is in very poor taste for a guesthouse serving the public. The accommodation was horrible.

For peace of mind in Richards Bay, this place has a neat home and a scenic garden. The hospitality is professional, and it has a homey feel. I’d recommend staying at this tranquil establishment. I’d rate it over 11 out of 10.

The host was warm and friendly, and both breakfast and dinner were great. The accommodation was neat and comfortable. I’ll be back.
