Forty Winks

We stayed in Cottage 2, which was spotless and roomy. The beds and linen were really clean and comfortable, and there were plenty of blankets, which we appreciated. The bathroom was huge and comfortable too. Such a lovely find close to home. The owners kindly left us farm fresh eggs, milk, homemade rusks, bottled water, and firewood.

The valley views are beautiful, it’s a quiet spot, and the location works well for exploring the meander. Our unit was well equipped, with WiFi and an Android box for entertainment. A few things seemed to be in limbo, which made sense with the news of the sale and incoming owners. The lounge area was missing curtains, the firewood provided was wet, and the fireplace had no dampener to hold the heat in. There was some water damage on the walls, and the underfloor heating didn’t work everywhere. Getting from the units to the dams to fish was difficult.

Watching zebras roam just a few feet from my veranda while falcons circled overhead was a real privilege. I had my evening glass of wine there at sunset, and the wildlife was incredible. The chalet was beautiful too. That “home away from home” line doesn’t come close, I didn’t want to leave. Peter & Jane, I’ll definitely be back.

The house was spotless, with a fireplace and lovely views, and the owners are such great people. They even came to our rescue and pulled us out of the mud! It felt like home, and was definitely worth the visit.
