Guland Guesthouse

A frog in the passage bothered us for two days whenever we went to the bathroom, and the staff did nothing even after we reported it twice. We were also trapped in the toilet twice because the lock was faulty. Nature is beautiful where it belongs, but frogs and spiders indoors aren’t ayoba. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you’re fine living with creatures.

The dinner and breakfast were absolutely superb, and it was really good value. The rooms are lovely, the gardens are wonderful with beautiful birdlife, and the staff are amazingly friendly.

I’m unable to share a positive experience because I was denied accommodation after a bungled booking and overly fussy processes. My company was meant to arrange a Friday and Saturday business stay through its standard process, using emails and electronic payment. I arrived in Rustenburg at 21:00 on Friday after numerous stop-and-go delays and awful truck traffic. I called the guesthouse for directions, only to be told that no accommodation booking had been confirmed. I asked if there was a room available and was told there might be, but I’d have to pay in advance. I couldn’t do that because I’m bound by company procedures. My manager assured me that the booking had been confirmed with the guesthouse, but the woman I spoke to denied it. When he contacted them to explain the company’s payment policy and try to arrange a room for me, he was told they weren’t willing to accommodate him. Luckily, he managed to find me somewhere else to stay in Rustenburg at that late hour.

Great price, really friendly service and a delicious breakfast. No complaints!
