Claires of Sandton

Another B&B suggested this place after they were fully booked. On arrival, the host met me in the compounds and took me straight to my room, pointing out a few things along the way. I found it odd not to see the property first. Later, at 5:00 PM, I asked about a lounge or shared space and was told those areas were unavailable for the day because offices were there. That also seemed strange. I’m used to hosts being warm and helpful, and I try to treat people with the same respect. This host seemed less welcoming to me, though I saw her laughing and joking with other guests, which left me wondering if her manner depended on who was visiting. The room was adequate, the bed comfortable enough, and the bathroom clean and spacious, but I don’t see what makes Claire’s of Sandton a “Luxury Guest House.” I’ve stayed in guesthouses without that label that had a nicer atmosphere, better amenities and a kinder welcome. I did appreciate the convenient push-button gate and the glass door from the room straight outside.

Staying there was a very pleasant experience. The breakfast was tasty and good quality, and Zodwa was a great host. 👏

Everything was tidy and well looked after, and the area was so peaceful that it was hard to believe the guest house was just a stone’s throw from the heart of Sandton. Breakfast was generous and cooked fresh to order each morning. The scrambled eggs were perfect. I’d suggest the owners add a small automatic coffee machine.

The garden setting was a lovely part of the stay: every room opens straight onto it, and mine looked out over the pool. The neighborhood is quiet, and the rooms, bathrooms, towels and appliances were all neat and clean. Internet worked great too. Ms Zodwa welcomed me with real kindness from the moment I arrived and made me feel at home. Her motherly greeting and tips about the nearest supermarket and restaurant were especially helpful as a foreigner. I stayed five days, enjoyed the delicious breakfast, and would highly recommend the guest house. 10/10.
