Hello Jean, I’m writing to say how disappointed I was with this accommodation. It wasn’t even worth one star. Why weren’t we expected? I had been in touch with you from England and made sure our stay was booked and paid for. You confirmed the booking and payment for your B&B self-catering two-bedroom cottage for 27/28th April. The bathroom light didn’t work, the bedding smelled musty, and the bedside lamp in the twin bedroom fell apart. There was a bad ant problem, but Robert’s response was, “What do you expect, this is Africa.” That’s rubbish. We have ants in England too, but not in the house, and we use ant boxes, sprays, and powders to deal with them. The place was very poor and dirty, and Robert blamed COVID. Also rubbish. I booked based on a recommendation of the area, and wouldn’t have booked if I’d read the reviews first. For a four-star review, the place needs sorting out, including the kitchen cabinets and general maintenance. Graham Clarkson

I travel to Johannesburg regularly for a few days of business, and staying in a hotel is a no for me. At Fourways Gardens Guest Estate I feel more at home, not like just another guest. The owners welcome you sincerely, like a visiting family member, and they take care of their business. Bookings are handled promptly, and they respond quickly to invoice requests. The rooms are always super clean and neat. I love the beautifully kept garden and all the trees around the property. Would I recommend this business? Yes. Is it value for money? Yes.

This place deserves zero stars for horrible service and dishonesty. The owner was rude and grumpy, and kept telling us she was just an employee when she was actually the owner. Our experience began on the 8th of March 2023. We had asked about Fourways Apartments, not Fourways Gardens Guest. I requested a price, got one, and paid in full. Since it was a business stay, we assumed everything was set and that we’d be staying at Fourways Apartments. We’d never heard of Fourways Gardens. After the long drive from Durban to Gauteng, we found out we’d been booked into Fourways Gardens instead. When we asked for a refund because we’d been misled, the owner made a lot of excuses and returned only 50 percent of what we’d paid, even though we hadn’t occupied the unit for two hours. While waiting, we arranged accommodation elsewhere. We’ll pursue the outstanding balance. I wouldn’t recommend this company, establishment, or owner to anyone. Disgusting.

Horrible. The owner was very noisy and went into our cottage while we were away. There were ants inside and outside, and I had a four-month-old baby and a four-year-old with me. I had to buy my own ant killer. The shower handle broke every time we used it. I also had to call the owner to clean the outdoor area because my son wanted to play there. They had a dog roaming around, too.

I haven’t stayed at Fourways Gardens Guest Estate yet, but I wanted to mention how amazing the response time is. One email or call gets a reply within five minutes. You can’t say that about many places. RoomsForAfrica and Jean Wade, the owner, are such a pleasure to deal with. Can’t wait for my stay.
