My colleague arrived to find no receptionist, and the room was grubby and dirty. I'd paid a large amount for his breakfast, but it wasn't good. The owner later promised to refund the breakfast and offer a complimentary stay. Then the manager called to say there'd be no refund, only a complimentary stay. No thanks. Getting hold of the owner was a mission, and they only use WhatsApp, which I should have questioned when they couldn't email me an invoice. Sorry, but this guesthouse gets no stars from me.

Dust was even in the sheets, and there were spiders everywhere. The house we'd booked was dirty and hadn't been cleaned in a while. My daughter woke up with a rash, and the pool was a filthy green. The dirt and dust are what upset me most. I wouldn't recommend it.

There seemed to be real potential here, but cleanliness and keeping the promises in the adverts need attention. The bedding was dirty when we arrived, and no cleaning had been done. The advertised coffee amenities and Netflix weren't there either. I paid R49 for a Black Friday special, then saw R790 charged on the bill for supposed cleaning services. The gate intercom didn't work. When I called the owner, she was somewhere so loud she couldn't hear me, and I had to ask her to move away from the speaker. She said she'd send someone to open the gate. We waited 10 minutes, called again, and she whispered that she'd just sent someone. She disputed that it had been 10 minutes, though someone was on the way. I showed the calls to the manager too. While we were lying on the bed with nothing to do, another couple arrived after a long day's drive and were told there were no rooms available, even though they'd booked one. The manager had to help them find somewhere else to stay overnight.

Mary at reception was amazing. There are a few things that need sorting out, though: the water pressure was very low, the toilet leaked, and the wardrobes were dusty. There wasn't enough toilet tissue, and neither the tea station nor the fridge had bottled water.
