Sandton Sun & Towers

We'd arrived early, but our room was already ready, and check-in was easy. Our suitcases were quickly brought up to our home for two nights. I hadn't booked the hotel I thought I had, and as we arrived I wasn't sure we were in the right place. The airport car service was impeccable, though, and Lindy was smiling at the front desk and welcomed me like an old friend. After that, I knew we'd found the right hotel. The place is amazing, the staff are so friendly, and I can't think of any faults. I'm going back for the weekend next month. Hope Lindy will be there to greet me again.

Getting around Sandton from here is so easy, and I'll stay again. The hotel has been renovated and was a lovely place to stay, with attentive service. A few small things still need attention, and the rooms could have been cleaned better. The dust was a bit off-putting, though it might have been from the renovations.

San Deck at Sandton Sun is a polished rooftop spot with a relaxed, upscale feel. The views are lovely, especially in the evening, and it's nice for unwinding after work or meeting people for drinks. Cocktails are well made and the service is good, but it's expensive. The crowd is mostly professionals and tourists, so it feels comfortable and mature rather than like a party place. Food choices lean light, though they're decent. A chilled premium experience for a special night or business catch-up, and worth it now and then, but not somewhere I'd go every week.

The location makes this a good choice for the Convention Centre, with the mall and square an easy walk away. I’ve stayed here for years, going back to when it was Intercontinental, and while I miss the service standards from those days, the staff are still friendly and courteous. The refurbished tower rooms are a big improvement: comfortable beds, great showers, and a much better feel than the adjoining Sun, where I stayed during the work. Breakfast varies from day to day, but there’s a decent selection and enough to fill you up. The hotel’s internet has always been appalling, so don’t count on streaming Netflix, even though a few TV channels are now available. Drinks at the bars in both hotels feel expensive compared with local options. A glass of wine costs about twice what you might pay sitting out on the square. I’ll keep coming back, though. It’s one of the better hotels in Sandton, and I’d choose a refurbished tower room over the Sun.
