The Catalyst Hotel

I stayed at The Catalyst for 10 days and found it quiet, safe, and very reasonably priced. The package included a hearty buffet breakfast each morning, and the free hourly rides to and from Sandton City Shopping/ the Mandela Mall were fantastic. The value for the accommodation, meals, transport, comfort, and hospitality was phenomenal. All the staff took wonderful care of me. Mulweli, Ayanda, and Phathu especially stood out as 5-stars. They were so welcoming and always made a point of checking in whenever we crossed paths. I highly recommend it.

My hubby and I had a date day with full body massages, and it was incredible. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and the service was top-notch. We left feeling relaxed and refreshed. Highly recommend!

The rooms are really nice, but the shared air conditioning caused trouble. Three rooms use the same unit, so when one room heats, all of them have to heat. We ended up sleeping with the windows open and had traffic noise in the morning. The hot water also runs out quickly because that unit is shared.

The rooms are actually great, though the walls are thin and I could hear all the commotion outside my door. There was a lot of it. I was keen to use the gym, but it was just okay. Hand towels would make it feel more homey. I stayed at The Catalyst for the first time in November, during G20 week, a busy time for Johannesburg hospitality. Even so, there was only one staff member checking people in, and it took 30 minutes. After a long flight and an Uber ride in the middle of the night, that was the last thing I needed. Not a terrible stay, but not my best either.
