Aan-den-Weg

Petra made us feel welcome right away, greeting us outside when we arrived after dark at Aan-den-Weg. It was easy to find just off the main road, and she was flexible when we told her we were running late. She gave us a quick introduction and a complimentary bottle of wine, then showed us our suite. The two rooms, spacious bathroom and kitchen area were a lovely extra we hadn’t expected. Both rooms were clean, bright and nicely decorated, with a fragrant bouquet of roses in each. I had twin beds, while my friends, a couple, had a queen bed. Mine was very comfortable, with full pillows, sheets and a duvet, and I slept well. When the usual South African load shedding cut the power for at least two hours a day, the solar power kept our room lights on. It was quiet at night, and we woke to roosters. We ate very well. Petra recommended Jordan Vineyards for Sunday breakfast, which was excellent. On the other days she made us delicious breakfasts with frittata, bread and croissants, yogurt and fruit, and coffee. Her place isn’t right in central Stellenbosch, but town was a quick 10-minute drive away, and several wineries were close by. She even drove us into town twice without asking for payment, which was extremely generous. We liked being a little out of the way, with extra space, a lovely garden and a pool with an incredible view. The pricing was very reasonable, the location had everything we needed, and Petra’s communication before and during our stay was perfect. I wouldn’t hesitate to return, and can’t wait to be back. Petra is so friendly and welcoming. The room was comfortable and serviced, and there’s a great braai area and pool. A nice place.
