We could walk around the estate to visit the wine farm restaurants and go wine tasting. There’s also a health spa and golf course, and next year we plan to learn golf at the academy on site. The lodges are a rare gem and a great location from Stellenbosch town, highly recommended. Our unit at Lodge 29 was cozy, comfortable, and equipped for what we needed. It was on a quiet side of the lodge, and the AC heated it well during the cooler weather.

We had a relaxing honeymoon, just enjoying each other’s company by the quiet pool, which was right outside our clean, spacious, newly renovated apartment. The surroundings were beautiful, and you don’t need to play golf to enjoy walking around the estate. We ate at the clubhouse, an easy walk away, and the food was great. My wife had the open english muffin for breakfast, while I ordered the salmon bruschetta. Both were perfectly made and filling. A couple of things to know about our unit: parking wasn’t close, so carrying several bags could mean a fair walk. Also, the double bed was two singles pushed together. That didn’t bother us much, though I can see some people finding it disappointing for a highly reviewed place.

The staff are friendly, the grounds are well looked after, and the modern, cozy rooms sit among plenty of nature. Security is very strict but still welcoming. If you like golf, this is a place to visit.

Cleanliness was a serious concern for us. There was visible mould throughout the house, and we were surprised to learn there was no cleaning service on Saturdays. When we asked the manager on duty for help, they seemed indifferent. Guests were left without basics like towels and toilet paper, which suggested poor oversight of the cleaning. We also saw worrying safety hazards. There were no balustrades at the front of the house, and one of the children in our group slipped on the bathroom tiles, which had no anti-slip measures, and broke their leg in two places. Emergency services then had difficulty getting to the property because of the front entrance and staircase.
