Bakubung Bush Lodge

We booked this lovely lodge through a timeshare and had everything we needed in our accommodation. It was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I especially loved heading into the park and seeing so much amazing game. A really special weekend away, and an easy getaway about two and a half hours from Johannesburg.

The game drive was a real highlight, with memorable sightings and guides who knew their stuff. Our room was comfortable and well looked after, which helped make it easy to relax. Bakubung Bush Lodge was a great break from busy Johannesburg, and we loved the beauty of the bush. We had a fantastic stay and will be back.

The location is convenient, the lodge is well appointed, and the staff were far better than average. But the maintenance problems went unresolved despite repeated requests, with no proper updates from management during our week there. The patio roof over the gas cooker leaks badly, so cooking outside in the rain isn’t possible. The bathroom LED was flickering when we arrived and still was a week later, even after housekeeping came to look at it and left. The room safe never worked once. I reported it on days one, two, and three. Someone made a half-hearted attempt on the first day, left, and didn’t return. I asked about it on two more separate days, but it remained broken and nobody got back to us. We had two laptops, cameras, tablets, and other valuables left exposed to theft. It’s sad to see maintenance deteriorating when the infrastructure, location, and staff are so good. The maintenance team was the exception to the otherwise excellent service.

It was a lovely holiday, though the heat was intense and the fans didn’t cool the place very well. Some of the plug points need attention because they don’t feel safe. The staff gave excellent service and went out of their way to help.
