Winterson en Somerkoelte

The birds woke us in the mornings, and Jamsy, our beloved padda, called us to bed at night. We felt safe and at home, and the clean, well-equipped place had everything we needed each day. Susan & Johan made us feel welcome, checked in on us, and were lovely to interact with. The peaceful setting was a real treat. We hope you have many happy, successful years ahead, and that others get to feel as at home and peaceful here as we did.

The bungalow is in a beautifully kept garden behind a remote controlled gate, and it was wonderfully quiet apart from the occasional car on the main street. My room was a quaint little setup, just the right size for me, with its own bathroom and a few small appliances. It was basic but comfortable, and everything was clean. There was a fresh towel and a complimentary bar of soap that smelled divine. It’s not a kitchenette, but the barfridge, kettle, microwave, crockery, and cutlery cover the basics. There were two each of plates, mugs, bowls, and glasses. Tea bags included rooibos and ceylon, plus sugar and riccoffee, but no milk, so bring some if you take it. For meals, it’s probably best to try one of the superb restaurants or pick up a few basics for self-catering. There’s a TV with only basic SABC channels, no DSTV. Payment can be made in cash or by ETF arranged with the hosts. I’d definitely stay again.

I stayed in the single room in winter, and the staff were very nice. It was a freezing weekend, so they even brought me extra blankets. Inside was neat and tidy, with everything a traveler needs. Well done.

The hosts were kind, attentive, and easy to talk to, and the gardens are beautiful with a great swimming pool. The place is well located, and the room has good potential, but I’d hesitate to stay again. My room felt ridiculously cramped, especially with the huge dining table taking up space. It seemed completely unnecessary and didn’t fit. Although the room is set up for self-catering, the layout makes cooking awkward: the two-plate stove is right beside one of the beds. Rearranging the furniture and removing the table could make it work much better.
