The treehouse was amazing, and we loved its simple, rustic look and feel. Just be aware that the steps up are quite steep. We also enjoyed a lovely walk around the farm and some of their amazing wine. My wife and I first got married at Montpellier, and came back for a romantic getaway. Booking was seamless, and I received a call to confirm the reservation. The staff were flexible about our arrival time, so we could spend some time around Tulbagh before checking in. Thanks to the Montpellier staff for making our return memorable.

What a lovely, magical place. The host thoughtfully switched on the heater before we arrived. The beds were comfortable and everything was spotless and clean. We’ll definitely return.

The place is gorgeous, with greenery all around, lovely staff, and a restaurant on site, so there’s no need to go elsewhere for a meal. The only problem was there wasn’t any warm water, so we had to wash the old-fashioned way using water from the kettle. Also, please book directly with them. My partner and I had quite a scare when we arrived and found they didn’t know about our booking made through booking.com. They were friendly and accommodating once we sorted out the mix-up.

Marica and her team handled every detail on our wedding day so well that we could relax and feel at ease. We fell for Montpellier the first time we visited and loved its rustic charm, the many little spots to explore, and the kind, professional staff. There are lots of accommodation options, which meant almost all our guests could stay right on the farm. It’s a 300-year-old farm that we adore, and we’ll definitely keep coming back. The place and its people will always be special to us.

We had a great time at Montpellier and would recommend it as a base for exploring Tulbagh or as a wedding venue. We stayed in a room at the Manor House for a wedding. It’s an old Cape Dutch house with a similar but slightly more modern interior, and our room was spacious and comfortable for two. Some Manor House rooms share bathrooms rather than having en-suites, so it may suit friends or family travelling together better. The gardens, lawns and small forest across the property are beautiful, and our walks there, especially through the forest, helped us relax and forget the daily rush. There’s a pool that fits in with the surroundings, plus a Deli / Curio shop, Restaurant and Wine Tastings, which are reviewed separately. The ceremony took place in a quaint chapel with wonderful views of Tulbagh Mountain ranges and vineyards. The reception on the lawn beside the forest was lovely too. There are several venue and accommodation options, with different styles and weather conditions in mind, so it’s worth considering for a wedding. A few things could be improved: since the Manor House is open to the public, someone should be available at reception more often. The bathrooms should have toilet paper restocked morning and evening without guests needing to ask. A bottle of water in each room would also be useful for guests who aren’t comfortable drinking tap water.
