The location was super idle, with the mall within walking distance. We took a late evening walk and felt safe. I loved the hydrating stations on every floor, a really convenient addition. We arrived extremely early, exhausted after a family trip, and weren’t sure they could help with early check-in or even hold our bags. The staff were polite, helpful, and accommodating right away. They invited us to sit in reception and have complimentary coffee, and before we’d finished it, our rooms were ready. The rooms were clean, tidy, and spacious, so we felt comfortable as soon as we stepped in. Fantastic from start to finish, and I’m looking forward to coming back for a longer stay.

I visited the site this morning with Rose. The rooms have absolutely luxurious finishes and are spacious. There’s a water station on each floor for guests to help themselves. The hospitality was exceptional, and breakfast too! Highly recommend.

The hotel is nice, and both the staff and breakfast were good. But I was travelling for business and the WiFi was so slow I couldn’t even download small PDF files. That’s a no-go for a business trip at a hotel like this. The gym is really basic and small, and only open until 8pm. It’s connected to the restaurant, which gives it a bad atmosphere. In the morning especially, it smelled like burned bread and I didn’t enjoy it. Also, the light on one side of the bed was linked to the main room light, so I couldn’t use it separately.

The breakfast was fantastic and the stay was great overall. Wi-Fi handled WhatsApp calls and small videos fine, but uploads to cloud storage and email attachments could be difficult. That part could be better.

We ate at the start restaurant for both nights, and those were the best meals of our 10 days in Durban. The recent revamp has also given City Lodge Umhlanga a very sophisticated feel. Excellent experience.
