Getting into the apartment was a frustrating start. Check-in has shifted from 14h00 to 15h00, yet I didn’t get the information for apartment 202 until 16h15 by email through bookings.com. The host hadn’t contacted me directly, and the number listed there wouldn’t connect when I called. I only realised later it was a WhatsApp number. At first glance the apartment looked clean, but the bathroom floor towel beside the shower was dirty and there was no hand towel. When I lay on the couch after a long day, I could see cigarette butts and piles of dust under the bed. Then I opened the oven to get a pan for roasted chicken and baby potatoes. It was filthy, with mouldy vegetables inside, and the smell made it clear they’d been there for days. I had to empty and wash the pan and air out the oven before I could use it. The pots hadn’t been cleaned properly either, and the lids had greasy buildup. The washing machine didn’t work, and neither did the hairdryer displayed by the wardrobe. The building is busy, and my room faced another noisy building. It was irritating, to say the least.

The apartment looks nice, clean, modern and stylish, but the communication was 0/10. I waited 20 minutes trying to find my parking spot before I called, and only then did the person I was messaging send all the check-in details. The number listed on Booking wasn’t complete, so I had to rely on WhatsApp to reach the host. I’d called the day before to arrange an early check-in because I’d be arriving early, but they said I had to pay an extra 500. That was frustrating, and I still had to wait until 15:00. There were also broken dining room chairs.

I’m a sales agent for The Millennial, and I’ve also invested in the development myself. I’m really happy with that choice. The apartments are in a fantastic location and still available at great prices. I bought a Studio Deluxe, and I think the space works beautifully for two people. It’s not often a sales agent invests in the product they sell, and I’m happy to be a homeowner at The Millennial.

The block is large and feels quite safe, with Spar, KFC and Debonairs across the street for groceries and food. Gateway Mall and the Umhlanga Beach promenade are just a few minutes away by car. The heated pool is a plus. There’s some noise from nearby places, though.

A great apartment block right in Umhlanga Ridge, close enough to walk to lots of restaurants and Gateway shopping mall. Umhlanga Rocks beachfront and the CBD are only a short drive away.
