The room is comfortable, but a few problems in a short time have left me feeling unsafe. While I’m staying at Big 5 Guest House, two guests have tried to unlock my door from outside. I let the first attempt go, but after it happened again I opened the door to find out what was going on. I won’t stay here again. I’d already tried to give the establishment the benefit of the doubt. Then, today, 26 February 2026, I came back from site and found a huge truck blocking both the entrance and exit. I called the manager, who didn’t answer, and then hooted for someone’s attention. A woman who helps in the kitchen came to the gate and got the driver to move the truck. The communication and parking arrangements are a serious concern. If there were an emergency, how could guests evacuate with the way in and out blocked?

It seems like a handy base for business travelers or tourists exploring the area, with affordable, comfortable accommodation and African-inspired décor that gives it a warm feel. The rooms have air conditioning, satellite TV, and en-suite bathrooms with free toiletries. There’s also free Wi-Fi and parking. For downtime, guests can use the patio and braai barbecue, or have breakfast on the sundeck. The guest house describes itself as family-run.

Breakfast was included in the price and was delicious, served in a tidy, clean restaurant. The owner gave us a warm, friendly welcome, and the host was very accommodating with our requests. A pleasant overnight stop if you need a rest while traveling in the EC.

There are meals available, and you can sit outside your room if you’d rather not use the restaurant. The room had a small fridge, plus complimentary tea, coffee, and creamers. The guest house was immaculate, with lovely soft white linen and towels. Had a great visit, thank you.
