Old Cape on the Marina - De Pond : Unit 6

The restaurant is outsourced, so you pay each time rather than putting it on your room bill. The service there was friendly and efficient, and the food was great, probably the best in veldrif. Coffee was a letdown, though. Maybe a different brand and some bar training would help. Luke got the Americano right on our last day. The hotel is right at the Port, with a big room, spacious bathroom, spotless throughout, and a large balcony overlooking the sea. Our room was cleaned daily. The ladies at reception made us feel welcome from the start. We had a very enjoyable stay and need to come back to explore more of veldrif.

Port Owen was wonderful, friendly people and hardly crowded at all. The whole venue felt five-star quality to me, from the rooms and restaurant to the facilities. Menu prices are even lower than where I live. We’ll be back every year!

I didn’t know where Port Owen was or what to expect, but Russells on the Port surprised me. The setting is beautiful and so peaceful, a lovely escape. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and very professional, which made the stay special. It’s also not a long drive from Cape Town. I’d happily recommend this unique, relaxing hotel, and I’ll be back. Could this be South Africa’s best kept secret? It’s become mine.

Lunch was lovely. The big piece of hake was cooked just right, and the deep-fried goat’s cheese starter was amazing. I’d definitely return.
