Marataba Safari Lodge

Marataba Safari Lodge took wonderful care of our family, including my niece, who was just four. We chose it after a lot of thought and research for our May safari because we wanted somewhere that welcomed kids and gave them fun, safe ways to experience South Africa’s wilderness. The staff were kind, warm and passionate, and seemed to know what each of us needed before we asked. They noticed when my niece needed a meal, playtime or a nap, when the adults could use a rest or a treat, and when our family, usually spread across continents, needed some time and space together. The wild landscapes, animals, eco garden kids club, guiding, care, people, food, comfort and elegant style all came together to make us feel safe, pampered and in awe of nature. Thank you Marlot, Dorcas, KG and everyone else who helped make this a holiday full of lasting memories. I’m grateful to have nurtured my niece’s love and understanding of Africa’s wild areas, seen Marataba’s magic through her eyes, and rekindled my own love for the bush with my brother alongside. If you’re planning a family safari in South Africa, put this high on your list.

Being the only lodge on the reserve meant our game drives were quiet. We never ran into other vehicles and could really enjoy the bush. The lodge is well set up, with beautiful views of the Waterberg Mountains, and we had an incredible stay at Marataba Safari Lodge. It was significantly better than similar reserves in the surrounding area. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a luxury getaway in the bush.

Our first trip to South Africa was arranged through Scott Dunn, and we have only good things to say about these lodges. The accommodation was excellent, service was very good, and every staff member was friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time. Tim found so many of the Big Five in just three days of drives. He was knowledgeable and patient, and despite the flooding in the weeks before, he kept looking for a quiet road to take us down on our own. I’ve uploaded some pictures to show our experience. Only two vehicles came to each sighting, and much of the time we were alone, so it felt personal. The lodge and drives were completely tranquil, with only natural animal sounds. You could forget everything else. We’ll never forget this amazing experience. Thanks to everyone who made it special.

The whole team made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. Stunning game viewing, luxurious rooms, friendly staff and the best food. An absolutely incredible experience, make sure you come and see for yourself.
