Wilderness Beach Hotel

The hotel is in a great position above a very beautiful coastline. But the place feels very dated and needs a face lift. Our room's aircon and TV services weren't working, and neither were those in many other rooms. We paid R1600-R1700 per room per night, which I wouldn't say was worth it. My wife and I stayed one night while travelling along the Garden Route.

I canceled my booking through Booking.com two weeks before the trip and received confirmation, but the hotel still hasn't refunded me. I've called several times without getting anywhere, and emails to the head office were ignored. The lack of communication and customer service is shocking. They haven't processed the refund promptly and have shown no accountability. This was one of my worst experiences with a hotel. It's unacceptable and highly unprofessional, and I'd strongly advise others to avoid it.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was very nice. The rooms could use some renovation, though. There was no bar fridge to keep things cool, and the shower in the bath didn't work. It would be better to replace the baths with showers, or at least add a glass screen since the curtain lets water onto the bathroom floor. A handhold for elderly guests would also help. The coffee station only provided two portions for a couple, even though we drink coffee morning, afternoon, and evening, and staff had to be called to ask for more.

I wouldn't recommend staying here. The linen was clean, but the throws looked like they hadn't been washed in ages. The floors were dirty and there were cockroaches. There was no aircon and no windows, just a sliding door we couldn't leave open at night because our room was on the ground floor. The website photos seem very old, since everything is falling apart, and the spa doesn't exist. Definitely not worth R2000 a night.
