The peaceful setting is one of the best things about Deans Hill View Lodge, with its green surroundings and hills. It’s in the heart of Chipata and has been a campground and lodge for over a decade. The tent pitches are spacious, and the facilities are well kept, making it a comfortable place to stay among nature. It offers tourists heading to Luangwa South Game Park or Lake Malawi a range of options at reasonable prices. I’m hoping to see my favorite big cats in action at the Southern Luangwa hotspot, instead of on NatGeo! Blacktip 🤣

The room was clean, the Nshima and breakfast were both tasty, and the staff were super nice. They even helped me arrange a taxi to the bus stations during my pleasant stop on the way to Malawi. There’s a lovely green compound with a hammock and comfy chairs under the trees. A great spot to chill and make coffee :)

For camping, this is the best place in town in my opinion. The staff are great, and I negotiated a lower rate for a few nights. It’s well located too, within walking distance of the Total Station, a few shops, a local restaurant, and Hungry Lion. Big trucks might have trouble getting in, but anything Overlander sized should fit. The other place wouldn’t negotiate, their loss.

Moffat also arranges tours to South Luangwa NP, where he has a beautiful spot with lovely tents and good food. I paid 375 dollars per person for transport there and back, two nights and three days all inclusive, three game drives, and two days of NP entrance fees. I was very happy with it and would highly recommend it. I was upgraded from camping to a room because of a torrential downpour. There’s a bar, a 10 dollar menu, or you can use the kitchen. A serene place.

The manager was really helpful and friendly, and David is a gifted cook, the food was amazing. It’s a lovely green place with lots of chickens and friendly dogs, plus a nice hilltop view.
