The tent apartments sit up in the trees and have plenty of room. Fig Tree Bush Camp is cozy, and the accommodation is really nice. The staff are attentive, and the food is excellent. Everything is cooked fresh, and the cook is creative, making each dish taste good and look good. The game drives, especially after dark, are great, though there aren’t too many animals around.

There wasn’t a lot of wildlife around when we stayed, though lion tracks turned up in camp, so that added a little something. It’s a lovely bush camp beside a lagoon, with tents raised on platforms for a nice view of the water or bush. The staff and guides were excellent, and the food was great.

A really special place to stay and an incredible experience. Everything was well organized, and they do a fantastic job. It’s an easy three-hour drive from Lusaka. Kafue NP covers a huge area, so be patient while looking for wildlife.

The wildlife moves in and out of Fig Tree Camp, since it’s inside the animals’ home. We saw elephants, hippos, warthogs, leopards, lions, and plenty more. The camp is well run, beside a beautiful pond in Kafue National Park, and has the same owners as Mukambi Safari Lodge. The rooms are on raised platforms, with plush bedding, toiletries, and the essentials. Lunch is usually simple, while dinner tends to be three courses, with a starter or soup, a main, and dessert. They take dietary preferences into account for both meals. A heads-up: seeing lions and leopards around camp is common, which can be a plus or a minus depending on how you feel about it. During our three-night stay, lions woke us up twice. One night they had a kill about 40 meters from our room, and we heard them snarling and eating all night. It was loud enough that we couldn’t sleep a wink. Get an early start for activities. Game-drive jeeps aren’t packed with people, so you might have a private drive or share with just one or two others. There’s also a lovely infinity pool overlooking a watering hole, where you could watch animals come to drink in the dry months. The drinking water at camp is excellent, probably better than bottled water, so don’t bring bottled water from outside.

We had a lovely stay at Mukambi and were welcomed so warmly. The staff are super friendly, the food is superb, and the rooms are very comfortable. The lodge is in an ideal spot.
