Protea Hotel Lusaka International Airport

A great overnight layover spot, only a short walk from the airport. The rooms are modern, the wifi is good, service is friendly, and the food is amazing. There's also a very nice pool.

We arrived in the capital at 1 am and were so glad the free shuttle was waiting. The welcome was wonderfully warm, with two desk staff greeting us with big smiles. The lobby is spacious and well appointed, and has all the usual amenities. We had a conversation there with an esteemed guest. Breakfast was delicious and the service on our first stay was excellent. Lunch on our second visit was a different story: after waiting 45 minutes for poached eggs in an empty dining room, we had to cancel because our flight was coming up. The GM was accommodating when we checked out. Even so, being so close to the airport was very convenient, and we'd happily return.

The hotel's right by Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, across the parking lot, so getting to or from a flight is easy. The complimentary shuttle was quick and efficient. When calling for pickup, say whether you're at the domestic or international terminal to help things go smoothly. I chose an upgraded room and liked having a separate living area and bedroom with a very comfortable King-size bed. The breakfast buffet had lots to choose from, including a tasty omelet made to order by the attentive chef. We had dinner with friends in the restaurant, where the pasta and fillet dishes were enjoyable and well prepared. There were useful extras for travelers, including a computer area for printing boarding passes and complimentary water and coffee in the lobby and rooms. Staff throughout were responsive and accommodating, including when I asked for extra coffee in my room. I also appreciated the comfortable stay and service, and would gladly return.

The hotel was peaceful and the room had what I needed for a short stay, including a comfortable bed, strong Wi-Fi, a tea and coffee station, and an in-room safe. It was clean and well equipped. Check-in and check-out went smoothly, and staff were polite, professional, and ready to help. The restaurant had a decent range of food, and I especially liked the buffet breakfast with local and international options. The outdoor pool and garden were a nice place to relax before my flight. I didn't use the gym or spa, though it was good to have those available. Most of all, the airport is just a few minutes away, and the complimentary shuttle made the trip stress-free. A solid choice for transit or an early or late flight.
