Hotel Terranova

The location was great, the beds were comfortable, and the staff were fantastic for the price. The lift wasn’t working during our stay, so we used the stairs instead. Good value overall.

I didn’t actually stay here, but JAFFAR at the bar rescued me after train problems meant I arrived far too late. I’m back today for a beer. JAFFAR is my hero, mucho mucho Gracias!! 🙂

The location is convenient for getting to the ski slopes, but the hotel is noisy because of the shops and parking below. More seriously, some rooms really aren’t fit to use. Old furniture and worn fixtures might be tolerable, but black mold in the shower isn’t. Breakfast was nearly empty on the second day, including no bread, butter, eggs or bacon. On the third day the elevator stopped working, leaving us to climb five flights of stairs in ski boots. The building clearly needs repairs and better care. Don’t stay here. I wish we had found a review like this first. After staying there, I now suspect that many of the positive reviews are false and intend to report them.

The hotel has a lot to improve, although most changes should be easy. The most serious issue was mould around the bath and on the wall, which is unacceptable and could be dealt with using bleach and sealant. The furniture was battered, the double bed was too small, and the mattress was uncomfortable. There were only three cushions. The doors didn’t seem like proper hotel doors, and I’m concerned about fire safety and regulatory compliance. Breakfast also lacked hot vegetarian choices. Because the windows weren’t soundproof, people talking outside woke me every night. There was nothing complimentary apart from two bottles of water, though the daily rate would justify a kettle, tea bags and biscuits. It may be the worst hotel I’ve stayed in, but a few small changes could improve it substantially.
