We especially enjoyed the generous breakfast served at the outdoor Cafe’, with its beautiful view. The location is excellent, right around Berat Castle, with the old walls and mountains nearby. Our room had everything we needed, including a spacious bathroom, towels, toiletries, blankets, hot water, Air condition, and TV. The hosts were friendly and helpful, and our toddler had a great time too.

The view is amazing, the hotel is clean, and the hosting is great. Hotel Kalaja is somewhere I’d happily return to again and again. My only complaint is that it gets a little cold in winter and the air conditioning wasn’t working properly. Apart from that, everything was perfect.

The location couldn’t be more convenient, right next to Berat castle, with a view over the city from above. We had a huge room where two adults and two children could stay comfortably, plus hot water, air condition, TV, toiletries, blankets, towels, and a good lavatory. A restaurant is only a minute away and there’s a grocery downstairs. I booked months ahead and got it very cheap, so the price was within reach. Just note that some other rooms have a shared bath. Super satisfied!!!

Sleeping inside such an old castle makes the stay unforgettable. The building carries real tradition and history, and this is said to be the only still liveable castle in Albania. Long ago, the castle was where everyday life took place, while many others are now only ruins and walls slowly being destroyed. If you get the chance to stay here, enjoy it while you can.

At 15€/person and night, this is a very good hotel, especially since breakfast is included and genuinely good. The rooms do get quite cold in winter, though, because the heating doesn’t work.
