Avenue Hostel Yerevan

Good value for the money, and fresh bedsheets and towels were ready when I arrived. It was a little tricky to find the exact location.

The hostel is okay, very central, and close to all the amenities. The showers had decent hot water. In my dorm, the top bunk had a structural beam running along it, leaving your head nearly against the ceiling and making it hard to move around on the bed. The lockers could also use more space for luggage.

For a hostel, this is pretty much what you need. The linens were clean, the Wi-Fi worked well, there were cubbies for your things, and the showers had hot water. It's in central Yerevan, very close to Republic Square and within walking distance of lots of shops and restaurants.

I came back for another 3 nights after a trip to Goris, and on 2 of those nights I woke up itching and being bitten. I ended up with lots of red dots on my body. It seemed the bed had bed bugs, and I've traveled enough to feel sure that's what they were. At checkout I looked along the side of the mattress and found piles of dust, old food, and other trash. Disgusting. Under the beds hadn't been cleaned in a long time, if ever. The older second bathroom was also run-down, with a broken shower head and a blocked drain. Bed bugs are a deal breaker. I doubt anything will be done, since spraying and replacing mattresses costs money and doing the wrong thing is more cost-effective. Obviously, don't stay here. My first impression had been much better: it felt homely, and although compact, the space seemed to work well. The bed was good and the room was well designed. I would have recommended it.
