The steam room is the best I've ever used, and I went there every day to meditate. It's the one thing that might bring me back. El Mercado was another bright spot, with outstanding food and warm, attentive service. The other meals disappointed me: Italpast was mediocre, and the burger and fries at The Library Lounge were no better. I was in town after a travel magazine invited me to review the property. I booked a residence, a full apartment owned by a third party, while my friend booked a hotel room. I prefer the residences because they have more room, a full kitchen, and a living room. The atmosphere felt unfriendly from the start, beginning with my attempt to book a spa session before arrival. The spa required full payment upfront or said the session might be canceled, then canceled it anyway. During my three full days there, security stopped me at least three times a day to check my room number, by the pool, in the hallway, and near the elevator. After repeatedly confirming I was a guest, I expected them to recognize me. Instead, the checks made me feel unwelcome, as though I didn't belong there. Today, spa staff also told me I couldn't wear my spa robe to the pool. I've visited 112 countries and stayed in five-star hotels around the world, and I've never come across such an absurd rule. I'd spent $170 at the spa, in a country where average monthly income is just $300, and expected at least a little appreciation for the business.

The pool is a lovely place to spend time, and the staff are friendly and helpful, if not especially bright. The rooms could use another inch of space in every corner, but they're charmingly decorated and shielded from the city's noise. The bathrooms aren't my favorite part of the hotel. I've stayed at many five-star hotels in Buenos Aires, and this is still my favorite so far. I was here five years ago and thought it was better then. Maintenance is a little lacking and standards have slipped some, but the service is still good and the style has charm. It's great value, and I'd come back anytime. El Mercado is beautiful to look at, but I don't think the restaurant is worth its prices. On a 37C day, I was outraged to be offered a table by the mud oven fire with no air conditioning. The masseurs are amazing, although the treatment room is too bright and the music a bit too loud. I skipped the rojo tango show this time, but I've seen it twice before and absolutely loved it.

We had a good stay at Faena Hotel for our 29th anniversary. My husband and I live in Buenoes Aires. The hotel's design is unique, the interiors feel plush, and the bar is roomy and comfortable. The pool area beside it is beautiful and inviting. The restaurant was comfortable and the food was good. The bed felt comfortable, though not as soft as I like, and I still rested well. Check-in was easy, the staff were accommodating and all spoke English. Since we were celebrating, the hotel sent champagne and chocolates to our room. Room service was easy to order because the cooks spoke English, and breakfast arrived in a reasonable time and tasted good. We decided to try the Tango Rojo dinner and show at the hotel after reading negative comments, most of them years old. We know Mercado across the street, which is part of Faena Hotel, is excellent, and we've been to many tango shows in Buenos Aires. Most tango dinners we've had weren't great, so we wanted to judge this one ourselves. This dinner was pleasant and better than the others we've experienced. My steak was cooked how I wanted, my wine and champagne glass stayed full, and the cheesecake was very good. The wait staff were excellent, and the five-piece orchestra was great. Tango Rojo was performed beautifully, sexy in a tango way, with quick, snappy movements that had me mesmerized. The show is very expensive, but I'm glad we went. Thumbs up from me.

I love this unique hotel. I stayed here for about six months last year.

The classy hotel was a treat. I loved the bar and pool area, and had a great time at the spa.
