Our Airbnb booking got cancelled after we arrived late in Calafate, and several hostels and hotels turned the four of us away when we knocked. A lovely Chilean guy working at Upsala took us in in the middle of the night. The place was spotless, and they even gave us a wake-up call to check whether we wanted breakfast before checkout.

A basic, quiet family hotel that was clean enough. Nothing exciting, including breakfast, whose value was microscopic.

A little dated, but clean, comfortable, and warm. Breakfast was bread, jam, and coffee with milk, and the Wi-Fi was good.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the low price made the stay acceptable. You can see the trade-off in the facilities, though. The mattress was very hard, the heating didn’t work, and breakfast was disappointing, just slices of bread with jam and a few pieces of butter. It wasn’t a comfortable place, but it could work for a short stay if keeping costs down matters most.
