I really appreciated that the owner waited up for me until very late at night after I messaged him. I’d moved here because the place I’d booked was much smaller than I expected, and I couldn’t even lay my suitcase flat. This is a family-owned hostel, with a pretty cozy room and hot water. They’re happy to recommend restaurants and tours, and you can order a lunch box if your local tour doesn’t include lunch. It’s about 3 blocks from the main street, but the walk is flat instead of uphill. Nothing to complain about. I’d definitely choose it again if I visit El Calafate.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The local utility company, SPSE, announced the water outage a day in advance, so management knew it was coming but never told us. They could have left a note on the doors or messaged us, but said nothing. After returning from a full-day tour, we found there was no running water at all. We couldn’t flush the toilet or take care of basic hygiene. Leaving guests without basic sanitation while keeping the outage quiet is completely unacceptable. Very poor management.

The breakfast was delicious, especially the homemade bread, and we liked being able to prepare it whenever we wanted and organize things our way. The staff were so friendly. My daughter had a cough, and they even offered to take us to the hospital. We really liked the place: the room and kitchen area were warm, beautifully decorated, and comfortable. There are games in the dining room, plus a lovely little patio we could have enjoyed if we’d had more time. Great location too. We recommend it!

Once you step inside, there’s a huge garden that looks just as stunning as the pictures, and the place is spotlessly clean. At first glance it may not seem very distinctive, but the friendly, attentive staff and home-like feel make it somewhere you’ll want to return to. It’s near everything and still incredibly peaceful.
