The breakfast was great, and the breakfast room has a beautiful view. The hotel is lovely and sits in an amazing place. Staff were friendly and so helpful, with great advice on when to trek and what to expect from the weather and wind.

The room was clean, though a bit small, and there was no safe. Staff were very friendly and a useful source of information on treks, shops, restaurants, and general tips. They reminded us to take sunscreen on sunny days, even in cooler weather. It was around 5-10 degrees Celsius for us, and we nearly got sunburnt. You can also order a lunch box from reception if you ask ahead. We requested ours the night before our trek.

I chose the more expensive “pay at the property” option instead of booking in advance. At check-in, the receptionist said that card payment had to go through PayPal in USD, and that the alternatives were PayPal or cash. I asked about paying in local currency with a card reader because the hotel info page says cards are accepted. We paid cash since it seemed cheaper than PayPal. The next morning, an older couple had the same conversation with the receptionist. They had no cash and refused PayPal, and then she produced a card reader and charged them in Argentinian Pesos. That made the earlier answer seem like a lie. It matters because Visa credit cards now use the Dollar Blue exchange rate for foreign cards, and foreigners are exempt from VAT. In Argentina, that can make a credit card the cheapest way to pay for accommodation. Cash doesn't get that exemption, so it costs an extra 21%. The PayPal in USD method the hotel was trying to push is by far the most expensive. Be aware and insist on a card reader transaction.

A beautiful little hotel with owners who are friendly and helpful. You can see the mountain chalten from the living room. After a trek, tea is waiting along with tasty cookies or cakes.
