EL GAVION a 150 m de playa

Being one block from the beach was the only real plus. I stayed here once before, eight years ago, when the owners were managing it, and came back for a second stay. This time a "manager" was in charge, and her arrogance was unbearable. She pressured us to pay before arrival, ignoring what had been agreed, and was rude and disrespectful throughout. I asked for a ground-floor apartment because stairs are difficult for me, but she put us on the first floor anyway. When I complained, she casually said we could get our money back and leave instead of trying to fix things or making us feel welcome. The complex is in very poor shape and offers only the basics. I never saw anyone clean the pool, which was filthy and hadn't been painted in years. There were no lights on the stairs or at the entrance at night. During our seven days, the bedside lamps in the main bedroom were never fixed. The water heater also gave me trouble. The main bedroom was okay, nothing special. The second bedroom had cots with absurdly thin mattresses, and one of my children had to put his mattress on the floor to sleep. There was no closet, so the room stayed messy for lack of storage. There were dust bunnies under every bed, ancient towels, and stained sheets. The apartment had no microwave either, and I had to argue to get one delivered. I wouldn't return even for a free stay. Unless they put some money into replacing the mattresses and linens, I can't recommend this place.

We stayed in apartment 5 last week. The building is attractive and well located, but it needs a deep clean and proper maintenance. There are much better options at that price, so it's worth looking around. The map pin is wrong and sends you a block past the place. The building has no name or number, either. The freezer was filthy, packed with ice, and had no ice trays. We needed to use it, so we tried defrosting it and ended up breaking it. We then had no fridge for three days and had to arrange and pay for a replacement ourselves, used, of course, since apparently we had "broken it." The oven trays had been put away dirty. There was no microwave or can opener. The blackout curtains don't cover the windows properly, so the sun was right in our faces at 5:30 in the morning. There were wasp nests in the windows, which we had to remove so we could leave them open for airflow.

The place looked nothing like the photos or description. The Wi-Fi never worked, the utensils were old, and there was no real customer service or maintenance. We wouldn't stay here again or recommend it unless the conditions and service actually improve. We'd booked more than three weeks ahead, but arrived to find the pool completely filthy, covered in mold and full of mosquitoes. The manager said it had been "very windy" and that the pool cleaner would come that Friday. He never showed, so we couldn't use the pool at all during our stay. The apartments were dirty and musty. Our sheets and blankets looked unwashed, and the bathroom was in awful condition, with dirty sinks and mirror and a stained shower screen. The manager didn't greet us and left the keys in the lock. Later that evening the complex had no power. We struggled to get the grill lit, and she only showed up around 8:00 or 8:30 pm, saying she'd "forgotten to light it." It was a terrible experience.

The location is hard to beat, right in the center of the nearby beach resorts. We really liked the apartment and everything else was perfect. We were there a week ago, and even though the weather wasn't great, we had a lovely time. The pool looks excellent and promising for summer. We'll be back.
