Hostel Otro Mundo

The staff were so friendly and helpful. They arranged a biking wine tour for us, and this is the first hostel we’ve found in South America with a fair laundry price. Breakfast is simple. The neighborhood feels safe, just don’t wander down a random side road.

Bad weather closed the crossing from Chile, so we couldn’t get to the property. They didn’t reply to our calls or emails, but charged us the full amount for the reservation. Be very careful booking if you aren’t sure you’ll be able to make it. They’ll take your money and run.

The owners are lovely and helpful, and the showers and AC are good. There’s a secure place to park bikes. It’s a nice little hostal, but it’s showing its age and feels dark. It needs investment. The area is okay, though there isn’t much nearby. The good stuff is an Uber ride away.

We left our motorbikes in the secure parking area two nights ago. The next morning, soft items had been stolen from the bikes. The landlady told us afterward that we should have removed everything, though she could have mentioned that the first night. We had to stay another night while the police investigated, and I had to buy a new helmet. By then, it was too late to move on. The following night she let us put the bikes in her garage, but charged us for that night too. Other guests had been advised not to walk out at night because the area wasn’t safe. Be careful if you stay there, that’s my advice.
