El Refugio De Coquena

The room was spacious and mostly clean, though dust covered all the surfaces. The bed was so hard it was very uncomfortable, even though I usually like a firm mattress. The toilet smelled of sewage, and the shower head was coated in deposits and missing its nozzle. Some towels looked gray and had stains, so we chose not to shower. The electric heater by the door was cracked from top to bottom, and there was no fridge or safe in the room. The location is good, about a five-minute walk to the viewpoint and ten minutes to the main square. There’s covered parking and a spacious yard, and the main building is nice. Breakfast was basic but filling, served only from 8 to 10 am. In our 45 days in South America, that was the shortest breakfast window. A good location doesn’t excuse cutting corners on upkeep and cleaning.
