Hotel Colonial

The beds were uncomfortable, with squeaky frames and mattresses that clearly need replacing. The showers also have weak pressure, and getting a reasonable temperature is almost impossible: turn on the hot water and it's excessively hot, so you end up showering with cold water. The speaker in the room didn't add anything; a fan might be more useful and save energy. And along the whole front of the hotel, sewage and nauseating smells were constantly present. The concierge and breakfast attendant were curt and always seemed in a bad mood, which brought down the experience. On the positive side, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the staff were generally warm and helpful. The cleaning was impeccable. The dark-haired front desk woman with straight hair deserves a special mention for her cordial manner and constant smile. Breakfast was excellent, nicely presented, and adequate. The location is a real plus: close to the center and surrounded by useful places for travelers, including a supermarket, greengrocer, laundromat, and rotisserie.

We went over the Carnival long weekend. Check-in was fast, and we got covered parking a block away. The staff were very friendly, breakfast was quite complete, and the cleaning was good. They replaced the bath and hand towels daily. The room was very old but functional. It could use a fan, since the air conditioner was noisy, though it did cool the room after my boyfriend cleaned its filter. The shower is very low, so a tall person can't use it comfortably. A mini-fridge would also help. You can't keep anything cold during the stay, and water bought at the hotel gets warm within an hour.

For the price, it's a decent place and the breakfast is good. Parking is limited, and hot water costs extra. There's no mini-fridge in the rooms, so it would be handy if guests could use some space in the hotel's refrigerators or freezers, as many similar hotels allow. The Wi-Fi wasn't very reliable.

December 30, 2025 I was only passing through on my way to Patagonia, so I spent one night here. The place has a strong 80s look, with fairly large spaces. The rooms have EVERYTHING THAT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE TRAVELING BACK TO THE 1980s, apart from the TV. Everything was extremely clean and well cared for. The mattress was uncomfortable and seemed to belong to that same era. There was a 1987 Surrey air conditioner for sleeping, and it worked properly for its age. The Wi-Fi was poor. The staff service was excellent, and they were very helpful to tourists. PARKING WARNING ⚠️ There are only 4 or 5 spaces in the hotel lot. Call ahead to reserve one. Otherwise, they offer a discount for parking across the street. BREAKFAST WARNING ⚠️ The photos show a full breakfast with cold cuts and other items, but on the day I visited there were no cold cuts or fruit. It was just flour, yogurt, and instant juice from a packet. I took off two stars for the mattress and breakfast.
