Le Chatelet Hotel

The receptionist gave decent service, but the parking issue brought my rating down to two stars. We were told we could park on a side street without trouble, but nobody explained which way the car had to face. We got a significant fine, while other cars facing the same way with Argentine plates didn’t. It felt like foreign drivers were being unfairly targeted by local police, though I can’t tell whether the hotel was involved or simply failed to warn us about an important rule in its awful parking situation. The heat also made sleeping difficult on the third floor. My dad had a fan in his room, while our vent put out no air at all, even though we paid the same. The hotel itself was nice.

The staff were really nice, and the rooms were comfortable and clean. It’s very central, close to almost everything you might need. Just keep in mind that a room for three is basically a double with an extra bed, so there’s less space.

Le Chatelet is a good, safe, comfortable hotel in San Martin, which is one of Argentina’s coolest, most laid-back towns. It’s handy for great restaurants, coffee shops, and bars, and suited me well. I wouldn’t give it five stars, though. Our first night was disrupted by very noisy machinery, but changing rooms was no problem. The staff were friendly and positive, well done to them.

The rooms are small, dated, and noisy, and the hotel feels a bit overpriced for what you get. Breakfast is mostly sweets. They’ll make scrambled eggs, but for some reason wouldn’t fry them. Our room also didn’t get cleaned while we were out all day. Still, it’s a nice hotel and a decent option.
