Villa Del Cielo

The only trouble for us was dogs barking at night, though that's an issue across town and not specific to this hotel. They provide free earplugs, which solved it for us. We were also lucky to join one of their occasional wine tastings at the hotel's own vineyard. The wine with the fabulous food was a wonderful experience. The cabins are well equipped, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious. Staff were friendly, the restaurant was fantastic, breakfast plentiful, and the spa has lovely views. There's plenty of parking, and the center is a ten-minute walk away. A great base for exploring the area.

The people were lovely, from the front desk to the restaurant, and the food was really good, especially the flan and brownie. The indoor heated pool and sauna are great too. Still, plenty needs work. The bed and pillows were so hard it was like sleeping on a board, and the showerhead sprayed everywhere. It was hard to keep my hair dry, and the water temperature swung from blistering hot to cold with the tiniest adjustment. We were told the pool and sauna would be private for 50 minutes, but another couple came in soon after and said the person at the counter told them it became shared space after a certain time. We really didn't like that. The place has good bones and very nice people, but these issues need fixing.

The cabins were spacious and had a great view, and both the service and restaurant were excellent. There's enough parking, and the center is within walking distance. The dogs came along with us everywhere, which was fun if you're lucky enough to have them join you. We didn't get to use the pool and regret that. I'd definitely book here again if I come back.

Bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper, since dogs and roosters make a lot of noise in the area. Otherwise, there's lots to like at this little Tilcara hotel. I enjoyed coffee on the patio in the morning and some time in the sauna, which you need to book. The landscape is lovely. I highly recommend the Diablo hike from town to the waterfalls. If you're lucky, Gala the dog will even lead you there.
