The location right by the ski slope is the one clear advantage, but it doesn't make the price feel reasonable. The breakfast was very poor, and on one day when I asked for a cappuccino, a staff member said they were busy cleaning rooms and told me to sort it out myself. That service was unacceptable for a hotel. The room was cold, the sauna didn't work at all, and the old rooms and furniture were badly outdated. With conditions like these, the cost is far too high.

Skiing straight back to the hotel parking lot might be the only reason to pick this place, and by the end of the trip you may regret it. It's definitely overpriced. The rooms feel like a workers' hostel, they're cold and seem to have been renovated decades ago, if ever. The sauna was included but didn't work. Breakfast was bland, dinner was good, and the coffee was awful. There's only one hairdryer in the hotel, and using it blows the fuses. If something goes wrong, the host acts surprised and pretends to look for solutions. She rarely answers the phone, and staff are nowhere to be found. She seems friendly and always has a smile, though.

We ended up paying 19 euros per person to use the spa at Der Hechl Hotel because the sauna here was still broken. The owner, Nanja, had told us it would be repaired within two days of our arrival, but it never was. We got a 10 euro per day discount at the end for the broken sauna. We chose this hotel for three main reasons: its location near the slopes, that it was kid-friendly, and the sauna. As for the owner, she always seemed to have a fake smile. About 80% of the time she didn't answer the phone, and when we raised any problem, she said it wasn't her fault.

Nanja made the stay feel especially welcoming. She was always smiling and ready to help make things memorable. Hotel Sonnenuhr has a warm, home-like feel, and we had a beautiful experience in Tauplitz. A lovely place for a vacation with a real sense of welcome.
