There's a lot to do around the hotel: an indoor pool on site, a very large outdoor pool in the village, tennis courts there that are free for hotel guests, and bikes available from the hotel. The surrounding countryside and mountains are beautiful to explore, and Graz, a lovely historic city, is close by. The hotel and its wellness, spa, and cure facilities are built around a historic old Capuchin monastery. The food is very good, the staff are friendly, and plenty of treatments use the famous healing "moor" or peat dug from the mountains high above the town. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience the "real" traditional Styria.

The views over the Styrian hills from the balcony were beautiful, and the rooms were really comfortable. The staff were warm, welcoming, and spoke English. I left feeling human again. I came here from Australia after travelling through the Baltics and taking an overnight train from Poland. A friend had recommended the place, though I barely knew what an Austrian moor spa was. Now I understand why people make the trip. It’s amazing. The Heilmoor, or peat mud, comes from the high bog at Garanas in the mountains above the hotel. It’s rich in organic acids and minerals, and this is more than a day spa: people come on their doctors’ recommendation. I wish we had this tradition in Australia. Given how long every flight from there is, I reckon doctors would send us here before and after each one. If you’re Austrian, this is part of your heritage, and I’m a little jealous. If you’re visiting from elsewhere, it’s well worth the trip. Either way, go.
