The building's history and heritage are part of what makes this place so beautiful, along with the extraordinary views around it. There are lots of activities nearby, yet it never feels crowded when you come back at the end of the day for a drink or snack and some downtime. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!

The ski storage was excellent, and it was so convenient to leave equipment there to dry overnight. Julia was also very kind and welcoming, a lovely first impression. For families, the spacious room could use a curtain or door to give a bit more privacy. The shower door is completely transparent, which might feel awkward with older children. The restaurant was good, but at these prices we were surprised drinks weren't included. It would be nice to have basics like sparkling water, coffee, or hot chocolate available throughout the stay. The children were served promptly, while the adults' meals took quite a while, which stood out after a long day skiing. We also wished the sauna and pool stayed open later than 7PM. Our 3 children were hungry at 5PM after skiing, but dinner didn't start until 6:30PM. That left the evening feeling hectic, since we wanted to swim and knew the facilities would close at 7PM. We enjoyed our stay overall, and appreciated several parts of the experience.

The outside pool felt like a dream, with its mountain panorama, and the sauna area was relaxing despite being on the small side. Dinner was succulent, with lots of different tastes, and every fork or spoonful was a pleasure. Service was dynamic and efficient, and the welcome at reception was very warm. I was there on a road trip through Austria and would come back.

I don't usually write hotel reviews, but my wife and I were so pleased with our stay here that I had to. The hotel sits in a beautiful spot at the foot of the mountains, with the sort of scenery you'd expect in a small Alpine town. Staff were happy to pick us up from the nearby train station. The place felt cosy and friendly as soon as we arrived, and the decor was just what I expected. Our room was spacious, beautiful, and in perfect condition. We spent time admiring the mountain view from the deck. The food was impressive. Breakfast had cold cuts, cheeses, yogurt, fruit, granola, baked goods, and an egg station. You choose your dinner from the changing daily menu when you go down for breakfast. In the evening there was a salad bar, a light appetizer, soups to pick from, three main course choices, meat, fish, and vegetarian, then dessert and a cheese bar. Courses were served with time between them, and soft lighting and music added to the meal. If you book breakfast and dinner with your room, you get the same table throughout your stay. There was also a good variety of wine, spirits, cocktails, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks. We tried both spa areas and used the workout room too. The main floor spa has a pool and dry sauna. The Stadl spa has a steam bath, aroma therapy sauna, dry sauna, and a room full of beds where you can curl up and read. Staff helped us work out the local train schedule and how to enjoy the area. There's a ski lift only 100 yards away, though our visit was too early in the season for it. Instead, we took the train to nearby Garmisch to ski and visit the Zugspitze. It's 30 minutes from Hotel Spielmann, followed by a 1-hour train ride up to the ski area. The Hotel Spielmann staff were happy to come in early to take us to the station, a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk away, and collect us after a long day skiing. Every part of the stay was enjoyable, and the amenities and staff far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend Hotel Spielmann.

The grounds were beautiful, and breakfast and dinner were both top notch. We went as a family, and there was plenty for the kids to do, though it wasn't a kid-specific hotel, which suited us. There weren't many Americans, but we found enough English speakers and everyone was super friendly. We'd come back, especially in winter. At least book half board.
