Hotel Pfeifer

The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the rooms were clean with fast internet. Breakfast was plentiful and dinner excellent. There’s an extensive selection of schnapps and brandies to sample. The ski lifts are about a 10-minute walk away, and the hotel also runs a free shuttle. The outdoor pool is on the small side and can get crowded when lots of guests decide to relax there at once.

Breakfast was nice, and the first room we booked was what we expected. But we were given a different room, much smaller and completely unlike the one we had booked, even though we paid for the original. The heating couldn’t be turned off, so the sauna was in a different room than expected too. After we discussed it, we got the original room, which turned out to be unexpectedly free. Still, the whole exchange left us feeling like complaining customers.

The hotel itself is okay, breakfast is good, and the ski lift is within a manageable distance, though farther than at most hotels in Gaschurn. But we didn’t feel taken seriously as guests. We weren’t given the room we booked: it was much smaller, had no separate toilet or sitting corner, despite those features being explicitly confirmed by email. The heating also wouldn’t work properly. The room felt like a sauna, couldn’t be adjusted, and we had to open all the windows. What frustrated us most was how our concerns were handled. They even argued with the email we showed them in black and white, and said they send all kinds of different pictures to guests. They also told us we didn’t understand how difficult it is to manage a hotel. It’s not a bad place, but they call it a piece of paradise. To make guests feel welcome, they really need to change their behavior. We found them unreliable and impolite. We wouldn’t recommend booking here.

The mountains are beautiful, and the food is delicious. Service is excellent too. This is the best hotel in Austria, and I’ll keep coming back!
