For a solo traveler using public transport, I think this is a better choice than the touristy hotels by the waterfall on the cliff. The room is huge, with a balcony and a large wardrobe. Mine had a sink, though the bathroom was shared. Breakfast was adequate, and there’s a complimentary Gastein card for transport and spa discounts. The location is handy for the train station, bus stop, ATM, Eurospar, and mountain gondola. It’s good value and close to useful facilities. There’s also a shortcut from the main train station road, a small path beside Youth hotel that leads straight to this GH. A small chiller, meaning a mini fridge without an ice cube function, would be a nice upgrade.

The rooms are cleaned daily, and the shower was nice. It’s about a five-minute walk to the ski lift. This is a very friendly family-run B&B. A handwritten note welcomes you to breakfast, where they add something new each day, like local cheese or bread. There’s no hot food, though. Rooms on the top floor have a great balcony for sunny afternoons.

I had a good, comfortable bed and a pleasant room, and the hosts were very friendly. The traditional building was lovely, easy to find, and had free parking and good WiFi. Breakfast was a decent buffet, with eggs made on request. The ski lift and town center are only a few minutes away on foot, and the price was very reasonable. I chose the cheapest room at the back, with a shared bathroom and toilet on the floor above, and a view of the wall of the house behind. That was no problem for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

A friendly and helpful owner, and a great place to stay if you’re planning to ski. The lift is within walking distance.
