Pension Posauner Dorfgastein

We stayed for 4 nights in December 2023, and our local hosts, family Etzer, made us feel very welcome. The comfortable rooms had what we needed, including comfy beds, a balcony, TV, and a good bathroom. Breakfast was rich and tasty too. For a skiing trip, this is just the sort of classic Austrian Pension/Haus with breakfast you're looking for, in Dorfgastein and the Gastein valley, part of Ski Amadé. The central location puts shops, restaurants, and ski bus stops within walking distance. The slopes at the local Dorfgastein-Großarl resort are a little too far for a comfortable walk, but getting there is very easy: a nearby ski bus runs every 15 minutes and takes just 3 minutes. It's also easy to reach other ski resorts around the valley. I recommend going to Bad Hofgastein - Schlossalm resort, a 15 minute bus ride; the bus stops right by Schlossalmbahn. From there you can ski to Bad Gastein. You can also stay on the bus to reach the smaller, farther out resorts Graukogel or, especially, Sportgastein, a natural highlight high in the Hohe Tauern mountain range.
