Sendlhofer's

I came with my grown-up kids and we had four rooms. The hotel is beautiful, the team is great, and everything was just what we could dream of.

The spa and the restaurant and bar all look thoughtfully designed, and the food and drinks were good. Our room was roomy and cozy, and the hotel sits in a lovely, peaceful setting. Dinner felt a bit rushed, though, because the booking schedule was so tight.

The gym was the letdown: it felt tired, had no running machine, and there was no water, so I had to head to the bar for a bottle. The rest of the stay was great. My room was more spacious than I expected and very comfortable, and there were lots of comfortable spots to sit, relax, and take in the views. Staff were friendly, the spa treatments were excellent, and the facilities were fabulous. The whole place had a warm, welcoming feel. I’d happily stay again.

The stay was mostly okay, but the start left a bad impression that never quite went away. After eight hours on the road, we arrived at reception and the receptionist confused our room with someone else’s. The first key cards we were given didn’t work. Then we were handed a card showing a 19:30 restaurant booking, even though we hadn’t booked a table. The receptionist said it was fine and that a table had been arranged for us that evening. The invitation also promised a free welcome drink if we came a little early. After our long drive, we thought it would be a nice chance to have a good meal, so we arrived early and showed it to the waiter. He said he knew nothing about the booking. I spelled my name ten times, typed it on my phone, and spent ten minutes explaining, but even after checking the invitation he couldn’t find it. We said we’d eat elsewhere because we were very hungry. Then he somehow found us a table, but did so with great condescension, and the promised free drink wasn’t included. The waiter did try to help and did his best, but nobody explained what had gone wrong or simply apologized and confirmed that we had a table and the welcome drink. The receptionist’s handling of it was really unprofessional. At a hotel costing 240€ a night, treating guests this way felt inappropriate. Maybe it sounds like a small thing, but little details matter when you’ve come somewhere to relax. We avoided the hotel restaurant for the rest of the stay and ate in town. The bad feeling lasted until we left. We’d just stayed the previous month at another family hotel near Salzburg, Langwies Genussherberge, where they did a really professional job with guests. The much cheaper Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum in Brno, where we stayed the day before arriving, was also perfect with its service. Reception did everything to make guests feel good and not worry about anything, and they even gave us water for the trip when we left. That kind of care was missing here at Sendlhofer's hotel.
