Großglockner Goldried Chalet

There's plenty of parking and lots of tables, including outdoors, with a superb view from this very nice place. The food could use a little improvement.

We felt completely at home here. There's lots of room for two in the apartment, and the balcony looks over a meadow where horses graze right in front of the house. That view is magnificent. The large bathroom has a second door to the balcony, and the separate guest toilet is a real plus. We skipped the infrared sauna because it was warm, and didn't need the experience shower. Everyone has different preferences, though. The shower cubicle is very large but has a high step. Putting a towel down took care of the slipping risk, but getting in and out still calls for care. It wouldn't be ideal for older guests or people with limited mobility, though I suppose visitors around here are sporty and fit. We'd stayed in hotels on earlier trips to Kals, but wanted more room this time by trying a vacation apartment. Bikes can be kept in the barn beside the carport, and having a washing machine available is a rare bonus. The nearby inns Gamsalm and Temblerwirt are highly recommended for good food and a fantastic terrace view. You can arrange bread delivery, or buy bread at the nearby Kalser Genusshütte on Wednesday and Sunday. The supermarket, a few minutes away by car, also has a small selection of rolls.

We spent four nights at the Großglockner Goldried Chalet just over a week ago, and the owners were very friendly. The apartment was spotless and had everything we needed, including a dishwasher, steam room/sauna, coffee machine, and more. It's right by the gondola, handy for hiking or skiing in winter. I highly recommend it.

We booked for 2021 last year, but they still hadn't confirmed it by today. Today we got another cancellation. Anyone booking for the Carnival holidays knows you have to reserve more than a year ahead, or everything is full. This kind of stalling is unacceptable!
