Kinderhotel Appelhof

We had a wonderful Easter break and hope to return soon. This hotel has a real school-camp feel in the best way, with details shaped over many years around kids. It's a unique place, and no luxury resort could recreate that atmosphere. I have a lot of respect for the people who look after such a large area, and can imagine the challenges the staff face now and in the future.

We traveled with our daughter, who has celiac disease and needs gluten-free food. The waitresses did an excellent job and brought extra food for her. The bread rolls were gluten-free from Resch & Frisch. The staff explained that the kitchen prepared fries and some other foods separately for her to avoid gluten contamination.

There was plenty to keep the kids busy, from skiing and hiking to the kids club and board games, and the gym was great. I also really liked the coffee and the electric car charging. Meals tasted good, though the choices felt limited, especially for vegetarians, and got repetitive. The room had lots of space but felt dated and ready for renovation. The pool was a letdown: small, with not much to do.

The mountain view was lovely, and the location was easy to reach. Families have a lot of options here: the pool is big enough for children, there’s also a baby pool, and parents can get a chance to relax. Our room was clean and spacious, the food was decent, and staff were friendly and keen to help. The kitchen and restaurant team tried to handle individual requests. Some things could use updating, though. A few restaurant high chairs were unstable and missing safety straps. English was difficult for some staff, which sometimes caused confusion, so we had to double-check details about activities that needed registration. Everyone still seemed willing to assist. There’s no elevator, which can make a second-floor room awkward to reach.
