Dormio Gasthof Hollwirt

The room was much bigger than we expected, and the bathroom was new. Good beer, friendly staff, and a nice atmosphere. We had to find out ourselves in the morning that breakfast was served at the main resort, hundreds of meters from this Gasthof. Staff hadn't mentioned it. We were also given the wrong Wi-Fi password and had to ask them for the correct one.

I hate leaving this review after such a great day in Halstatt, probably the best we've had in Europe so far. The trouble started at check-in: we went to the address in the confirmation email, then found out we had to go 2km down the road to the resort. Based on the pictures, we thought we'd be staying at the resort, and said we'd be willing to pay the extra to switch. After 15 minutes, they told us they couldn't do it. Fine, we took the room key and went back to the original house, the hotel. The room was spacious, but it smelled funny and was cold. The Wi-Fi they gave us didn't show up, and the shower wouldn't drain. At dinner, we tried ordering a cocktail at 7:30pm and were told they weren't making cocktails, though wine and beer were available. That was fine. The appetizers were okay and dinner was mediocre, but the service from the guy with tattoos was worse. When we visit again in a few months, this resort won't be on our list.

We went twice in two days since the town didn't have many choices. On our first visit, the onion soup was good, but the mixed grill with chicken, pork, and beef was too old. The next day we tried fish and grilled ribs, and both were good. I especially recommend the fish dishes. It's a nice restaurant with fair prices, and it opens on weekends.

This review is only about the restaurant. I looked up places near Dormio Resort Obertraun on Tripadvisor; this one had 4 stars, while the others had 3.5 and looked trashy. Our food was fresh and reasonably priced, the service was friendly and efficient, and the garden terrace was lovely.
