Gasthaus Maislau

The balcony view was easily the best part of our stay. I’ve stayed in plenty of other Gasthofs over the years, and this was the worst. My German is pretty good after spending a couple of my younger years in Germany, so I don’t think this was a simple misunderstanding. The website said 128 Euros for 6 people, and there were only 5 of us. On the phone, the owner lady was rude and said she couldn’t care less whether we stayed. We needed somewhere on our trip, though, so we agreed to pay 240 Euro with no breakfast, hoping it would be a nice place. It wasn’t. We got two extremely small adjoining rooms, though at least that meant two bathrooms. One shower had no water pressure; the other had a broken handle on the shower head, so it faced the wall unless you held it with one hand. Neither bathroom had hand soap, shampoo, or body wash. Luckily, one room had a tiny 1970’s kitchen with dishwashing soap, which we used to wash our hands. The woman who checked us in was nice, although it seemed she had to defend the owner lady over the price. That’s why I’ve given service two stars instead of one for the owner lady.

That was cool.
