Ath Salzburg Mitte

The breakfast was a disaster. Three women kept circling a buffet that had nothing much to offer, and the person in charge was on her phone. I politely asked for an omelet and was turned down, then sent back to the sad buffet. The rooms were okay, nothing special. The location was hard to find and far from the center, with three nearby restaurants that all close by 10 pm. The front desk was barely functional too. When I asked for a late checkout, they had to get permission from the manager, and only let me stay the shortest amount of extra time. That’s why I took off one star for location, one for the front desk, and five for breakfast. I’m trying to be nice here, so two stars.

I stayed three nights in mid October 2025 with one other person, in the Family Room. It was clean when we arrived and a reasonable size for two adults, with twin beds already set up. The basics for a business hotel were there, and the small bathroom and shower were adequate. We had no problems during the stay, and the outdoor balcony was a nice addition. Comfortable enough for a short visit. It’s a clean hotel that feels a little dated and has recently changed management. The bus stop is directly across the street, with a 20-30 minute ride into the center, and there’s no train station nearby. A Salzburg Visitor Card for free public transport is included. There’s a supermarket opposite and a decent selection of restaurants nearby. Parking is free, though hotel guests can only use designated spaces in the main lot. There’s no laundromat at the hotel; the closest is a 10-15 minute drive into the city center. I’d recommend it for budget-conscious visitors who don’t mind being around 20-30 minutes out from the city center.

The receptionist surprised my girls with dessert, such a sweet gesture that made our stay much better. We were stopping on the way to visit hallstatt, and this was a perfect place to stay while exploring salzburg before heading to liechtensteinklamm and zell am see. Free parking and public transport passes were included, and it’s next to billa plus, tedi, action, and an asian restaurant. It’s part of marriott bonvoy, so members can collect points too. We loved our stay, and would highly recommend it.

This was honestly one of my worst hotel stays, on a par with my time at the branch in Vienna. I arrived very late on a freezing night and found the blanket in my room too small, so I politely went to the desk to ask for another. The front desk agent, who seemed British Pakistani or British Indian, wouldn’t check and bluntly said there were no extra blankets. When I asked him to look, he rudely said their “policy” didn’t allow them to provide one. I explained that I get cold easily and the blanket was clearly insufficient, but he just repeated himself and made no effort to help or show any empathy. I told him I’d chosen the hotel because it was part of Marriott and I’m a Platinum member, so I expected basic courtesy and service. His response was shockingly rude: “You are not staying at Marriott. We are a 3-star hotel and this is our service.” It was completely unprofessional and unacceptable for someone dealing with guests, especially at a property associated with a major brand like Marriott. Truly disappointing that Marriott employs staff with such poor professionalism and manners.
