Hotel zum Hirschen

The studio was spacious for the two of us and our baby, very clean, and nicely furnished with good amenities. We had an amazing time, and the hotel is close to the city centre and everything we wanted to see. Guests staying in the apartment section can also use the hotel facilities. The staff were excellent, including the friendly breakfast buffet team, and the buffet had very good quality food. We ran into a problem with our booking, but they sorted it out together with Booking.com. Special thanks to Annette and, I think, Lena for their great help at reception and at breakfast. If I could give this Hotel six stars, I would. I’d highly recommend it.

The location was ideal for the railway station and visiting town, all easily walkable. Our room was lovely and cosy, though a little too warm for sleeping, and we couldn’t get the air conditioning to cool it down. Reception and breakfast staff were very friendly and helpful.

I’m torn about how to rate this hotel. The rooms were elegantly furnished, the bar was very nice, breakfast was good, and the staff were incredibly helpful. But we had two unpleasant problems with room cleanliness, which is a basic part of hospitality at any price, especially at this price level. On arrival, I found hair under the bedspread, nails on the floor, and a stained table. It was low season, and the oversight seemed odd. I felt embarrassed reporting it, since this had never happened to me before, but they moved us to another room straight away and handled it professionally. We were relieved, but the new room, though much tidier, still had hair under the bedspread and a dirty towel from a previous guest in the closet. We were tired, so I put the bedspread in the closet with the towel and decided we could live with it instead of complaining again. I can’t understand how this happens at a hotel with such high reviews. I wondered if a disgruntled employee might be doing this to upset the managers and guests, though I really hope this isn’t the usual standard.

We came for three nights for my girlfriend’s birthday. The staff were helpful and friendly, the breakfast was good, and the bar area was really nice. Our room was a good size and the hotel had great amenities. It’s close to the train station and about a 20-minute walk down the main road to the old town.
