The location is genuinely good for getting around, and at the right price the hotel offers good value. My suite was comfortable, very nice, and well appointed. The air conditioning was a major plus, easily keeping the room very cold, which can be hard to find. Still, set your expectations: despite being marketed as top tier, it felt more like a solid 4-star hotel than a true 5-star experience. It seemed noticeably understaffed, so anyone used to very attentive luxury service may find that lacking. Room service choices were surprisingly limited for a hotel of this claimed calibre, and housekeeping missed the meticulous details I’d expect at 5-star level. If you get a good rate and want a nice suite in a great location, it’s a solid choice, as long as you treat it as a dependable 4-star stay.

Of the four hotels I stayed in during my ten days travelling around Austria, this was my favourite. It was gorgeous, and everyone was so friendly. The room was breathtaking, like the rest of the hotel, and everything was extremely clean. They left a handwritten note and a dish of delicious treats for my 30th birthday. Such a thoughtful gesture! The breakfast buffet was delicious too. I told my travel agent to send all her clients here if they visit Austria. It was a 10/10 for me, and I’ll definitely stay here again if I return.

Breakfast was superb, with plenty of great vegan choices, and the refillable minibar was a nice bonus. The hotel is beautiful, with spacious, bright rooms and excellent facilities. Service was excellent too. Everyone was so kind and treated us wonderfully. A big shoutout to Dieter the concierge and Mica from the restaurant, who made us feel welcome and cared for.

The hallway and neighboring rooms were noisy enough that we could hear conversations, and housekeeping was among the poorest we’ve encountered at a five-star hotel. Used cups, empty bottles, and rubbish were left behind; towels weren’t reliably changed, and conditioner was sometimes missing. The room itself was surprisingly cramped and poorly laid out: there’s no sink by the toilet, so you have to cross the room to wash your hands. Service felt distant too. Staff ignored greetings in the hall, and once the front desk was unattended while employees were in a back room on their phones. When I asked for bottled water at checkout, they refused, though other five-star hotels on our Europe trip had offered it as a courtesy. Amenities were sparse, and the foldable hair dryer felt below the standard for a luxury property. The historic building makes a strong first impression, and you can walk to the Old Town, Mirabell Palace, and the train station. Still, the room, upkeep, and service didn’t meet our expectations for a true five-star hotel.
